We could produce an acute respiratory insufficiency after injection of

O2, CO2 or N2 into the arteria carotis. This resulted in apnea, increase

of blood pressure, changes of respiratory rate and coma. The paralysis

of the respiratory centre was reversible in some cases by artificial

        ventilation.
